10. My Direct Phone Line with God

by Araceli
(Illinois)

God, did humans turn out the way you intended? I know you gave us free will, but did we develop every other emotion based on our surroundings? What about fear and envy? Love and joy? Were those emotions made by us? Did you really just make us and then toss us on the earth to live life as we wish? Aren’t you disgusted by what we’ve become? About how shallow and cruel we are to each other? How racism, classism, and sexism are so prominent and just drive us apart and drive us to do such harmful, hateful things to each other? Are you really just sitting back and watching as everything unfolds until you decide your human project failed and you decide to end us all? Or are you willing to interfere sometimes when you sense someone is worth it? And for that matter, how do you judge if someone is inherently good? Is it really based on all that dribble about being moral and attending church that the church wants us to believe?

I think they have it all wrong and you’re not as judgmental and harsh as they make you out to be. I don’t think you care if we have sex before we are married or if we like the same sex, I think it matters what we do towards your other creations, do we torture them or do we help them? Is that what really matters to you? I have so many questions and I’m glad to finally have a chance to talk to you, boy is my cell phone bill going to be high!
