A Drop of Sweat

by Desiree
(Lewiston, Maine, United States)

In my fourteenth year, which was maybe seventh or eighth grade, I was invited to a school dance by my crush of that time. His name was Chris and he was a handsome fourteen year old Hispanic boy. Of course i was delighted to attend with him and giddily dressed and applied the proper amount of makeup and perfume and all that. He and his mom arrived on time to pick me up and he looked handsome as ever. My heart was beating about six million beats a minuet and I was very nervous, I had never danced with a boy before! For the first hour or so we hung around friends or made small talk while we sipped punch and then he asked me to dance. I was sure I would step on his toes or would discover I just had no rhythm at all, but since it was a slow dance I actually did pretty well. I thought that perhaps this might just be the most magical night of my entire fourteen years, even better then Christmas! As the song ended I looked up into his big brown eyes and he looked into my blue ones, his head began to tilt down and my heart racing I realized that this would be it, my first kiss!

In the second before our lips met, a large drop of sweat fell from his pretty tanned brow and fell....directly into my eye!

We spent the rest of the night unable to look at each other, for Chris is was embarrassment, for me...it was because one of my eyes was now bloodshot and red and i wasn't feeling too terribly attractive anymore.
