Santa was a Fake!

by Anonymous
( Milwaukee, WI)

Growing up in a small, suburban town just north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one could say that my life was a bit sheltered. Close-minded, naive, and very conservative would describe the town I grew up in to a "T". And unfortunately for me, I was always questioning the truth. Therefore, I was looking into finding out certain mysteries that surrounded my beliefs.

One could note that my faith was shattered the day I realized Santa Claus wasn't real. This may have been the beginning to my route as a conspiracy theorist. It was just after Christmas at my Grandparents house and I was telling my Grandmother everything I go for Christmas. Because we were planning a vacation to Disney World in Florida the following month, my brother and I received just a few presents for our vacation. I told my Grandma that I received a disposable water camera that I was excited to use in Florida. She exclaimed, "Oh, how lovely! I'm glad you liked it! I was there when your Mom picked it out for you."

My eyes opened wide in horror as I said quietly, "But Santa got me that gift." My Grandma had to leave the room in embarrassment. It was then I realized, I had been lied to my whole life. From then on, I would question nearly everything I was told to believe in. From religion to landing on the moon, I have been questioning it all.
