We lived in a small town in eastern Washington. I was about two years old and remember being excited because our cousins were coming to visit. My sisters, brother and I each had a cousin close to our own age. They arrived while I was taking my nap. When I woke up I went outside and joined everyone playing in the yard. We had a great time running around and playing games.
Towards late afternoon I heard my mom call us to come inside. The older ones pretended not to hear and stayed outside, but my young cousin and I immediately ran inside. Mom was sitting on the couch and I ran to her to climb into her lap. My little cousin who was also around two years old started to do the same thing. We pushed at each other trying to climb into her lap. Mom was laughing and we argued with each other saying, she is my mom!
We were almost in tears because we both thought she was our mom. At that moment my mom’s sister walked into the room. We both looked up and went silent. We were looking back and forth between our moms. They were identical twins!
