Bettering Interpersonal Connections

by Jasmine Dodson

I log into Facebook and see one new friend request. I click to see it’s from a girl I go to school with. Though I haven’t spoken a single word face to face with her, talking on Facebook occasionally allows the chances for more in person conversations. I think that with innovations such as: texting, Twitter, Facebook, etc. interpersonal connections are better.

One way that social networking sites and texting make interpersonal connections better are by making it easier to make friends. A lot of people are very shy and nervous when it comes to talking in person. But with Facebook, texting, etc., people can more easily have a conversation with someone. Texting or talking online first and then carrying on a conversation in person takes away the fear for many who don’t know how to start a face to face conversation.

Also, having social networking sites and text messaging helps people stay connected. We have to face that it’s not the olden days anymore, and we don’t write letters or send a pigeon to our friend’s house with a letter tied around its leg. Being able to stay in touch with friends or family is made easier thanks to online talking and text messaging. These innovations also can help to inform people of things. For example, it’s someone’s birthday party and they don’t know each and every one of their friend’s home addresses. Facebook/text messaging makes it possible for you to inform all of your friends at once when and where the party is at.

In conclusion, there are many different good reasons having the innovations of today’s day, such as: Facebook, text messaging, Twitter, etc. It takes some fear or nervousness out of talking to people face to face. And it also helps people to stay in touch and easily transfers information that needs to be communicated. Without these innovations things would be a lot more difficult. That’s why I believe they make interpersonal connections better.
