If I were born 10 to 20 years earlier

Having witnessed the massive explosion of technology in the past ten years and being part of the generation that is seemingly inseparable from our cell phones, I can say that I am at least slightly in tune with modern day technology. In fact I rely on it daily and could even say that I could almost not live without it. But if I were born ten years earlier than I was, would that viewpoint change? What if I were born twenty years earlier?

I believe that if I were born ten years earlier than I was then my opinion of technology would be slightly altered. In 1984, CD's had already been on the commercial market and gaining popularity for two years. Home computers were already in homes around the world and were picking up momentum in the middle class world. these two examples of technology are some comforts that would have eased my transition into the nineties and the tech-boom. The only issue with these is that they were commercialized but they were extremely expensive and only if you were a wealthy middle class family or upper class family could you afford one. This means that the exposure to them would've been limited so they probably would still be mesmerizing to me. The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) came out for modern homes in 1980 in America so the home video gaming industry had been introduced, so XBOX's and their amazing graphics are interesting and cool to my modern mind. Therefore, my viewpoint changed slightly about modern day technology and its uses.

If I were born twenty years earlier, my opinion of modern day technology would have been altered dramatically. In 1974, 8 track tapes were still massively "hip" and cassette tapes and walkmans were the way to go for portable music. This is a huge difference from the iPods and MP3 players on today's market, maybe not in idea but in function and quality they were light years away from one another. Japan hadn't even released the Nintendo yet so in the field of video gaming all we would have had were pinball machines, a massive difference from today or even 10 years later.

Modern technology would be slightly overwhelming but nothing I couldn't handle after I read up on it first. My views on technology would be massively different than they actually are today if I were born twenty years before I actually was.
In conclusion, technology, being as necessary and normal as it is for children of my generation and on, if I were born any earlier than I was, it could become overwhelming to say the least.
