Technology is usually viewed as an amazing thing that benefits everyone. The truth is that while technology may give us more information and communications it has degraded our society. Technology such as the internet definitely has its benefits but there are also many bad things about the internet. Cell Phones are another example. When you can talk to anyone in the world from anywhere you stop talking to the people around you.
Internet has benefited society greatly. For example it is possible to find information on anything using the Internet. Internet is a great tool when you are writing a research paper or doing any type of homework. Internet has also benefited the business world by allowing instantaneous communication between business establishments. The Internet also has a negative side. For example, Facebook has destroyed the social skills of most young Americans. It is something that people are constantly checking rather than doing more important things. People brag about having 600 plus friends of Facebook but they don't know half of their names. Sites like Facebook are involved in many crimes. People can fake identities on Facebook amazingly easy and it causes problems.
Cellphones are another example of the negative effects of some technologies on society. Cell phones affect society because there are so many people talking on them in public places. People used to talk to the people around them, now they talk to anyone anywhere. Texting also has an extremely negative effect on society. Not only are people not talking to each other anymore but they are learning writing habits that are bad for them. For example, soon after texting became a fad people started using phrases such as LOL and BRB in their normal speech. This results in people having a limited vocabulary.
In conclusion technology has had negative effects on society in recent years. The two main contributors of social deterioration are the Internet and cellphones. Each one has a few benefits but comes with serious problems. The Internet has become a horrible thing because it is filled with lies and advertisements. Cellphones have also degraded American because people have stopped paying attention to what happens around them. People have become absorbed in their electronics and the only group that benefits is the manufacturer.
