Ugliest Vacation Spot Ever!

by Amanda Smith
(Texas)

My family and I live in Texas. When we think of vacation we generally think of beautiful sandy beaches with clear blue-green water filled with fish, and of course we can't forget the wonderful sun. Well, that is not available to us regardless of being close to The Gulf of Mexico.
Every summer we remind ourselves of horrible conditions that is The Gulf. We go EVERY summer for vacation. Not ONLY to remind ourselves of the awfulness, but because there are really not many other places to visit from where I am from.
Now, don't get me wrong. There are beautiful beaches somewhere on the gulf. I just know it. Florida, I believe, does have water that you can swim in and sand that doesnt stick for days. Regardless, our Texas beach is what is available. I think I would take our nasty beach over even an amazing ski resort though (but maybe I'm just partial to high temperatures and sunburns?).
We drive a few hours to our destination. We check into a hotel and grab some lunch. That part is nice. Afterwards, we head to the sandy beaches to find the ugliest vacation spot I've seen! The sun is so hot, seaweed has overtaken the waves, and there is no way to see the bottom. Yikes!
So, we set up a large umbrella -oh wait, the crazy wind just knocked it down. At least we can lay out some towels and get some sun. That is always fun!
There are also some perks of having not-so-fantastic water quality. The sharks don't like it! So despite not being able to see that bottom, you really don't have to worry about being eaten. yay!
Luckily, the little kids in my family don't care if it is ugly -or even sticky- they just happily build sand castles and run away from the waves in the ugliest vacation spot ever.
