Nighttime at Beachside

Vacationing by the beach can overwhelm the senses with sights, smells, and sounds. Though this can be part of the fun, by evening's arrival a new sense will be awakened, that of wonder. As the sun recedes and people move inside, the temperature drops and creates a refreshing coolness on the skin. Wrapping up in a light but warm covering creates a quiet sense of security and repose to relax those overexcited nerves. The eyes are rested and the heavy sunglasses come off. Now the glowing lights across the water can be seen, and the local architecture and flora is highlighted by various sources of spot lighting, neon, and naturally, the moon.

The nighttime ambiance of beachside creates a magical shoreline to explore. There may be phosphorescent sea life at the edge of the sand to light the way. Light shells stand out against the darker grains. A distant bonfire can sparkle and dance both on shore and in a reflected brilliance on the waves. With other senses dulled, the sound of the ocean, as well as drifting sounds from nearby restaurants, soothe and delight tired eardrums. The aroma of grilled fish and meats mingle with the salty smell of the sea.

People can be seen strolling more slowly as the light wanes, and more attention is drawn to the shimmering yellow of the moonlight broken into a million shards of light on the choppy water. No one moves quickly through this scene, and the senses enjoy a newly heightened awareness. Even the toes and feet are free to enjoy the texture and feel of the sand without the burning heat of day. Each footfall is experienced as a soft sinking into grains that mold around the bottom of the foot and tickle up between the toes. It all combines to relax and refresh the body and soul.
